Are you a girly-girl? A bit of a tomboy? Somewhere in between? Does the thought of choosing flowers make you giddy or make you squirm? There are a few basic things to think about when choosing flowers for your wedding.
- Remember who you are! This day is about you and your beloved; choose flowers that express who you are. There are no right or wrong flowers for your wedding, just the ones you love!
- What is your favorite flower? That might be a good place to start. Then let your florist help you choose others that compliment your favorites.
- Do you have flower “phobia”? Look through magazines! Bridal magazines have a wide variety of bouquets in their photos but look at other magazines, too. Decorating magazines will also provide many ideas for color combinations and flower varieties to please even the least flower savvy bride.
- What color is your dress? Bridesmaid’s dresses? Take a swatch with you when you meet with your florist to match and compliment colors!
- What time of year is your ceremony? The season in which you are getting married may help you choose what flowers to include in your bouquets. Is your date near the holidays? If so, your site might already be decorated and you just need to add a few poinsettias or amaryllis to make it personal. If you are to be wed in the Spring, tulips and daffodils would make a lovely presentation. Consider the season and what flowers are blooming at that time of year to help you choose what would be right for you.
- Do you like orchids or other exotic flowers? Or are you more traditional with roses and lilies on your mind? Either way there are plenty of wonderful flowers to choose from that will suit you fancy.
- Are you a poet? Use flowers as your poem. Though the language of flowers had its peak in Victorian days, flowers can still be used to convey a special message. Do you want all to know how devoted you are to each other? Include a bit of Honeysuckle in your arrangements and a brief description of you choice in your program folder.
There are numerous varieties and colors of flowers out in the great, big world, but do not despair. Your florist can help you narrow things down to the perfect ones for you.
